Time to return home
Blog post #26
Well as they say, "all good things must come to an end". We were sad to leave, but we started back on the road on Wednesday Nov 29th. Our route would take us to a couple of sites we still wanted to see. One was Pistachioland in Alamogorda, New Mexico. I saw this place back in the summer on a list of off-the-beaten-path sites in every state. It's home to the World's Larges Pistachio (in case you were wondering where that was) We didn't get to it the first time through NM, but made time for it on our return.
The other place we wanted to stop was Pawhuska, Oklahoma. We saw the movie Killers of the Flower Moon when we were in Tucson with the kids. It is a movie about the killings of Osage Native Americans who had become millionaires after oil was found on their land in the 1920's. It was quite a devastating story of white men marrying and then killing Osage women for their land and oil rights. Pawhuska is in Osage county where most of the killings took place.
The other reason to go to Pawhuska was because I like The Pioneer Woman, a Food Network Show starring Ree Drummond. She calls herself an "accidental country girl" who lives in the middle of nowhere, and she is right. She lives on a ranch and films her show from there, but also recently purchased and refurbished a building in downtown Pawhuska called The Mercantile. It is a shop, bakery and restaurant. Much like what Chip and Joanna Gaines did for Waco, TX, Ree and her husband have had a positive impact on the downtown of this small town. Great food and amazing bakery! I'm so glad I got to see both places on this trip!

Awesome, Words can't express how happy I am for you.
