Enjoying the sites and tastes of Charleston, South Carolina

 Blog post #5

Charleston, SC is one of our favorite cities.  We love the architecture, art galleries, and most of all the food.  Toby managed well with all the walking, mainly because we borrowed a stroller for him!  It worked though; we were able to eat lunch outdoors while he sat in the stroller next to us!!!  We also found that he loves art.  Everytime we passed an art gallery, he wanted to go in.  And it's a very dog-friendly city, so they welcomed him in and even gave him treats.

Question for my students:  What is the significance of Fort Sumter, located in Charleston Harbor? (You can answer in the comments if you want)

  2. Fort Sumter is significant for its pivotal role in the start of the Civil War, its representation of secession and national division, its preservation as a historic site, and its contemporary role in educating visitors about this critical period in American history.
