Mandeville, Louisiana and Beaumont, Texas
Blog Post #9
We drove along the Panhandle of Florida and arrived safe and sound to Mandeville, LA. We stayed with Linda and Gary who are sister and brother-in-law of our good friend Kathy Lampl. They graciously showed us around the town of Mandeville which is just across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans. The town is full of old Live Oak trees covered with Spanish moss. It made for a interesting backdrop for Halloween. There was a lot of good NOLA food including gumbo (thanks Linda), po-boys, red beans and rice, and beignets.
Then we went onto Beaumont, Texas where Bob worked for 3 years as a DuPont engineer. We visited his old home and were questioned as to what we were doing there by a neighbor! We also visited the site of the first "gusher" oil well in Texas (black gold, Texas tea!) Bob enjoyed his time in Beaumont, but (in his words) he's glad he didn't have to stay! Me too!
I guess hubby don't like there anymore smiley face. Did Toby like it there?
