Waco, Texas (any Chip and Joanna fans?)

Waco, Texas has become a destination for home remodeling fans due to the popularity of the show Fixer Upper with Chip and Joanna Gaines.  They have quite a brand going and everything we saw was done with such class and style.  The Silos are their symbol but it is a complex that has small, stylish shops, a bakery, a home store, a furniture store, a coffee shop and a play area for kids including a small ball field with wiffle ball equipment and several corn hole games.  It's just so family-friendly and lovely.  I could have stayed there all day.  Bob, not so much.

Waco also has the longest river in Texas, the Brazos.  We walked along the banks and saw the Waco Sculpture Zoo.  We did not get to the Branch Davidian complex which was the reason Bob thought we were going there.  An enjoyable stay in Waco!

    The Branch Davidian complex in Waco, Texas, gained significant attention due to a tragic and highly publicized event that occurred there in 1993. The Branch Davidians were a religious sect led by David Koresh, who believed himself to be a prophet. The significance of the complex largely stems from the siege that took place between the group and federal law enforcement agencies, specifically the FBI and ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives).

Time to return home

 Blog post #26 Well as they say, "all good things must come to an end".  We were sad to leave, but we started back on the road on Wednesday Nov 29th.  Our route would take us to a couple of sites we still wanted to see.  One was Pistachioland in Alamogorda, New Mexico.  I saw this place  back in the summer  on a list of off-the-beaten-path sites in every state.  It's home to the World's Larges Pistachio (in case you were wondering where that was)  We didn't get to it the first time through NM, but made time for it on our return.   Had to have the homemade pistachio ice cream, even though I don't really like it. The other place we wanted to stop was Pawhuska, Oklahoma.  We saw the movie Killers of the Flower Moon when we were in Tucson with the kids.  It is a movie about the killings of Osage Native Americans who had become millionaires after oil was found on their land in the 1920's.  It was quite a devastating story...

Toby! Our little adventurer!

 Blog post #28 Some photos of our fantastic Toby!  This could have been a very different trip had he not been such a cooperative little guy.  He's back home and back to his ways of sleeping most of the day after this great adventure!  What a trooper! The indespensible stroller!    He like when there were couches he could get up on! One of our best hikes with Toby at Hovenweep National Monument. He spent quite a bit of time in this car seat! He liked being up on the hotel beds...not to sleep though, we lugged the crate in each stay. Looking out over Canyon de Chelly At the condo in Oro Valley. In his raincoat on one of the rain days on the way home! At Bob's former house in Beaumont...wanted to go in!! Picked up this cat toy along the way from my sister's cats Rosie and Caesar! Back home in his usual perch on our couch!

Enjoying the sites and tastes of Charleston, South Carolina

  Blog post #5 Charleston, SC is one of our favorite cities.  We love the architecture, art galleries, and most of all the food.  Toby managed well with all the walking, mainly because we borrowed a stroller for him!  It worked though; we were able to eat lunch outdoors while he sat in the stroller next to us!!!  We also found that he loves art.  Everytime we passed an art gallery, he wanted to go in.  And it's a very dog-friendly city, so they welcomed him in and even gave him treats.
